- A “student” residence status is only effective during the duration of enrolment while at a specific school. After graduation or course completion, even if the period of stay remains effective, international students are NOT allowed to stay in Japan with a “student” residence status. International students must leave Japan and return their residence card to the immigration inspector at the airport.
- In case you will be continuing your stay in Japan, you must change your residence status according.
Going to School in Japan
- Continuing education at Juntendo University, e.g. Master Program to Doctoral Program
- If necessary, you need to extend your period of stay.
- Going to any other academic institution
- Submit the Notification of the Accepting Organization (Left the organization) (Excel ) to the Immigration Services Agency of Japan.
- Follow the extension of period of stay instructions at the new institution
Working in Japan
- Consult with your employer and change your residence status to allow you to work legally.
Continuing Job-search in Japan after Graduation / Course Completion
- If you hold a “Student” status and expect to continue your job-search in Japan after graduation /course completion, change your residence status to “Designated Activities (特定活動（就職活動）.”
- Please note that this is only applicable for official students. Unofficial students such as research students are excluded.
- When you finish your job-search or the Designated Activities period comes to an end, you must change your residence status accordingly or else leave Japan before the period of expiration on the residence card.
- The period of stay for the status of residence “Designated Activities” is generally six months. If you are unable to complete your job hunting activities within your period of stay and wish to continue seeking employment in Japan, you must apply for an Extension of Period of Stay. If your application for an extension is approved, please be sure to notify the International Center. Please note that the period of stay under “Designated Activities” may be extended only once. Including the initial period of stay, you may remain in Japan for a maximum of one year to continue your job hunting activities.

1. Application for Change of Status of Residence to "Designated Activities (Job Hunting)"
Students who wish to change their status of residence to "Designated Activities (Job Hunting)" must submit an application through the Google Form below.

Notes regarding the Google Form
- At least three documents proving that you are actively engaged in job hunting
- Notification of passing a first-round interview
- Notification of document screening results (including rejection notices)
- Other documents demonstrating participation in a recruitment process
- Documents proving financial capability
2. Issuance of Recommendation Letter and Immigration Application
Once the information submitted through the Google Form has been formally reviewed and approved, a recommendation letter will be issued by your campus administrative office.
After receiving the recommendation letter, you must submit the application for a Change of Status of Residence to the Immigration Services Agency of Japan on your own.

3. Submission of Your New Residence Card
After your application has been approved and you have received your new residence card, please submit a copy of the card to your campus administrative office (or JUIC if you belong to the Hongo Campus).
4. Reporting Your Post-Graduation Status
After changing your status of residence, you are required to report your post-graduation plans (employment, further education, return to your home country, etc.) to your campus administrative office (or JUIC if you belong to the Hongo Campus).
