Family members of Juntendo University international students, researchers, or faculty who will visit Japan for 90 days or less will need to apply for a short term visa.
Family members of the Juntendo University international students, researchers, or faculty should apply for a short term visa at a Japanese Embassy or Consulate.
Mid to Long Term Stay
Mid to long term residents in Japan are those people who will stay in Japan more than 90 days.
Family members who will be supported by a mid to long term resident in Japan and will need to apply for a visa with a “Dependent” status of residence.
Family members are limited to a spouse and children.
The supporter must file an Application for Certificate of Eligibility (Dependent) for each family member that intends to come to Japan.
The Application for Certificate of Eligibility (Dependent) is made up of two sections:
“For applicant, parts 1 & 2”
“For supporter, part 1”
Each Application for Certificate of Eligibility (Dependent) requires the following items:
Certificate of registration or document certifying the activity, duration, and position of the supporter
Passport photo of the supporter and each Certificate of Eligibility (Dependent) applicant
Marriage certificate, birth certificate, or family registration that confirms the relationship between the supporter and the family member
Document explaining how the supporter expects to defray expenses
Note: The Immigration Services Agency of Japan may request more documents.
The Certificate of Eligibility (Dependent) application may take several months to complete and the processing time may vary depending upon the number of applications submitted.
After family members receive the Certificate of Eligibility, they will be able to apply for a visa.
A Certificate of Eligibility is valid for 3 months.
