Graduate School of Health Data Science

At Juntendo University, our strength lies in a vast and comprehensive collection of health, medical, and sports data accumulated over decades. By harnessing this rich data, we have been able to expand our research and educational initiatives in meaningful ways. In 2023, we launched the Faculty of Health Data Science to cultivate experts proficient in AI and data science. Now, in April 2025, we are excited to introduce the Graduate School of Health Data Science, which will adopt a holistic approach to health—not only within medical and clinical contexts but also in the everyday lives and broader social activities of people. Our mission is to train high-level information specialists capable of analyzing big data and leveraging evidence-based science to solve complex challenges. Additionally, we are committed to nurturing educators and researchers who can generate new insights and drive positive societal impact through groundbreaking research.

Our Master's Course (the first phase of the doctoral program) emphasizes statistics as the cornerstone of data science. Students will acquire essential knowledge and technical skills in IT and digital science, preparing them to engage in advanced research and education. In healthcare settings where precision is crucial, our curriculum equips professionals with the ability to critically evaluate AI outcomes. Graduates will possess a strong foundation in health and medical sciences, such as anatomy and physiology, alongside advanced data analysis expertise, enabling them to make data-driven decisions with confidence. The Doctoral Program (the second phase) delves deeper into data analytics, computer science, and health data science. By creatively applying these fields, students will become global leaders in advanced information science and educators or researchers capable of driving academic innovation and creating new societal values.

The health sector is rapidly evolving and primed for significant growth, presenting a wealth of opportunities for innovation and societal impact. As a Health Data Scientist, you will be at the forefront of this transformation, employing advanced data science techniques to analyze health information, improve healthcare and public health outcomes, and develop cutting-edge health AI applications (SaMD). Your expertise may also pave the way for launching new health tech ventures or devising robust cybersecurity strategies to defend against AI-driven cyber threats.
