Juntendo University has founded its Graduate School of International Liberal Arts, with the aim of applying the multilayered and pluralistic wisdom of the liberal arts to surmount ongoing global crises related to finance, economics, war and terrorism, and infectious diseases.

The Professionals We Educate

Our students gain the transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary education needed to achieve a sustainable global society. Rather than differentiating between the humanities and the sciences, we cultivate human talent with a sophisticated intellectual grounding, who have the capacity to get a wide-angle view on multiple disciplines. This equips them to expand the circle of mutual trust, solidarity, and cooperation while recognizing and respecting human diversity and differences.

Our Approach to Developing a Curriculum

  • This 2-year graduate program systematically delivers courses across multiple fields to foster interdisciplinary capabilities through a balanced courseload. This curriculum connects organically to research advising, which cultivates expertise.
  • The core subjects involve redevelopment and retraining (reskilling) of students’ existing intellectual and practical skills. While studying specialized subjects, students integrate their knowledge and skillsets with sophisticated, interdisciplinary expertise. Consequently, the program shapes students into professionals with advanced problem-solving skills.

Characteristics of the Curriculum

  • The curriculum is organized to allow students to systematically study transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary international liberal arts, which are essential for resolving issues in a globalized society.
  • Over half the courses are taught in English.
